From their site: “Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007, when 2.2 million homes and businesses switched off their lights for one hour. In 2008 the message had grown into a global sustainability movement, with 50 million people switching off their lights. Global landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome’s Colosseum, the Sydney Opera House and the Coca Cola billboard in Times Square all stood in darkness.” To participate, turn off your lights for one hour at 8:30pm on March 31st, 2009. Click the read more link for another video and links to more information.

The PharmaStrat Healthcare Future Leaders Essay Contest asks students to “identify a policy or a specific course of action that government could take regarding the U.S. healthcare system.”

Recently PharmaStrat awarded the 2008 prizes to Debra Evans, a biochemistry major, and Alicia Abbuhl, a business management major, for their essays. Each received a $1,000 scholarship and the opportunity to visit the PharmaStrat office in Flemington, N.J.

“I believe it is my obligation and duty to mentor the next generation of healthcare leaders,” said Phil Patrick, president and founder of PharmaStrat, Inc. “Each year I look forward to the creative ideas and energy provided by the students.” PharmaStrat is dedicated to providing a culture with an emphasis on education and professional development. Several Moravian College alumni have participated in internship and career development opportunities through the PharmaStrat Leadership Development Program.

Both Phil and Brian Corvino ‘02, a partner at PharmaStrat, Inc., serve the Moravian community in other ways, as well—Phil as a Business and Industry Council mentor and Brian as Alumni Board President and Sigma Phi Epsilon advisor. Recent alumni Scott Shelbo ‘07 and Kenneth Blom ‘07 also are consultants at the firm. PharmaStrat thanks both Diane Husic, professor and chair of biology, and Sylvia Doyle, director of corporate and donor relations, for their time and support on this project. –Scott Heydt ‘02

In the fourth installment of our Giving Back series, we have the opportunity to help a brother in need. The following was sent to us by Joe Langella, our District Governor:

On rare occasions, there is a unique opportunity to join forces as a Fraternity in Eastern PA/District Six and raise funds for an important cause. This, I believe is one of those occasions.

Brother John Gambone, a longtime SigEp Alumni Volunteer in District Six has asked for our support in helping his cousin, Michael Altieri. Michael is the Drug Task Force Coordinator in Montgomery County, PA. He recently underwent surgery for the removal of a benign brain tumor. During surgery, there were complications and Michael is now left with limited sight in just one eye. His family’s medical bills have been mounting, and to defray some of the costs, a benefit will held this coming Saturday, August 23. The flyer with details is attached. If you cannot participate in this event, there is another way to help. Click the Read More link for instructions.

If you wish to help out, send your donation to the following address:Michael Altieri Trust FundC/o Norristown Bell Credit Union1407 Erbs Mill RoadBlue Bell, PA 19422

In our second installment of the Giving Back series, we highlight another super easy way to make a difference in your community. Microsoft’s Search and Give program donates a penny to the charity or school of your choice each time you search the web using their site, up to $60 per person per year. A team of 20 brothers could raise $1,200 for charity next year just by using this site for web searches.
