Multiple sclerosis affects the brain and spinal cord of 2.5 million peple worldwide. Early symptoms of multiple sclerosis include weakness, tingling, numbness, and blurred vision. No one’s sure what causes multiple sclerosis, but it may be hereditary. There’s no cure for multiple sclerosis, but treatment can relieve worsening of symptoms.  Learn more at WebMD.

If you plan to participate, remember to bring comfortable sneakers, an additional water bottle, sunscreen (last year the walk was in April but was the 95 degree day in late april and a lot of people were very sunburnt), sunglasses/hat and a camera.Please take a look around the website after you register.

There are prizes for individuals who raise a cerain amount of money and last year all walkers who raised at least $50 received an MS t-shirt. There is a $25 minimum donation for all walkers age 12 and older.If you need more information, contact Joey (josephholmes3 at hotmail dot com).

This year’s relay is an overnight event scheduled for 8pm to 8am on April 4th and 5th in the ARC on Moravian’s Campus.  Last year, our team lead all teams with $3,450 in donations and we won the 1st place award. Here’s last year’s recap and photos from last year’s event. This year’s fundraising goal is $3,500. Message from Michael Crann:

Our team goal is $3,500.  Let’s get that plus some.  The more team
members the better so we crush in donations again this year.  Everyone who hasn’t done it in the past, it’s a real fun night so don’t hesitate to join.  Once you join, the website has formatted emails you can send out to ask for donations.  Real easy.  Just follow directions.

The 3rd Annual Relay for Life was by far the best relay Moravian College has had to date. The night started off with opening ceremonies which consisted of various speeches. One speech in particular stood out. That speech was given by Delta Tau Delta Fraternity Brother, Gerard Longo. Gerard is a cancer survivor and he told us about his struggles through his diagnosis and his treatments. It was awesome to hear from an individual who has survived the one thing we all have come to hate, cancer. Once he was done, we had our first lap of the night, the Survivor’s lap. These individuals are the reason why so many of us relay. All the teams followed the survivors as we walked around the track. Once this lap was complete, the festivities began. We’ve raised the most of any of the 19 teams by almost $2,100 (almost tripling the team in second place) and our team dontations account for 36% of the total amount raised! While we’re happy to be in the lead, it’s important to remember that we’re all really on the same team in support of cancer research. As a group, the teams have raised $9,296 to date and that is fantastic. Simon Tabchi, the undergrad who coordinated the event, has sent out another update that you can read by clicking on the title of this post. If you want to donate, there’s still time.
