The undergraduate brothers of the Pennsylvania Beta Alpha chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon at Moravian College invite alumni, family and friends to join us for our annual softball picnic retreat starting on Friday, July 22nd, 2011 at 5:30pm. We will be starting off the retreat on Friday at Starters Riverport for dinner and drinks. On Saturday, we will have a barbecue at the SigEp house (1423 Iron Street, Bethlehem, PA) followed by a meeting to discuss chapter goals. We will conclude the weekend with our annual softball game between the alumni and undergraduates brothers.

New Beta-Alpha Website Launched with Slick Facebook Integration

The AVC, in cooperation with the undergrads, has spent the last few months enhancing the SigEp PABA website. The new site is based on the WordPress platform and it went live today around 11am. The new platform is more robust and has an active user community that has developed over 8,000 free plugins that we can use to add functionality to the site as required. Website Update: Calendar!

This past weekend’s Officer Transition Retreat revealed the need for a continually-updated calendar on our website to help undergrads and alums coordinate their efforts. In response to that need, we’ve added new Calendar page and an Upcoming Events list on the homepage. The calendar will be updated every week with the activities are happening in the near future. This will be a great tool for the undergrads to make sure that they attend every event, and at the same time gives the alumni a chance to stop up at the house for a ritual or any event taking place. Please let us know if you have any comments and you can submit events by sending an email to admin sigeppaba org.

Website Update: Flashy Photo Galleries

We’ve updated our photo gallery code to use the flash-based Lightbox 2 gallery. It’s pretty slick and you’ve probably seen it in action before on other sites. Pull up any of our galleries on the Media page and click a photo to see it in action. You can start with any image and you’ll be popped into slideshow mode – click on the right side of the picture to see the next one, or click on the left side to see the previous one. Click anywhere outside the picture to return to the gallery.

Be our friend, try our app on Facebook

SigEP PABA is officially on Facebook (we know, welcome to 2004). Search for “SigEp PABA” and add us as your friend. After that, install our application to display news stories from our site in your Profile and notifications on your Wall. Click the Read More link to learn how to install the application or click here.

SigEp PABA Facebook Application Installation

What is it?

Our new facebook application displays recent news from our site on Facebook and when news is added to our site, a message will be posted on your wall.

Install Instructions

1. Add the application to your profile by going to http://apps.facebook.com/pabanews/. You should see a message similar to the following:

2. On the page that comes up, click the link to grant offline acces, which will let the application post messages on your wall when you’re logged out.

3. Go to your profile page and click the “+” to add a new tab. Select “SigEp PABA” from the drop-down list.

4. Add “SigEp PABA” as a friend, if you haven’t already. If everything is working, you should see a new tab with content similar to the following screenshot:

Website Feature: Easy Email Photo Uploads

Want to add your pictures to our website’s photo galleries? Now you can, and it’s as easy as sending an email. If you can attach a picture to an email, you can instantly upload photos to the Brother Uploads gallery on the Media page. Important Note: Anything you send will be publicly viewable immediately and we’re logging email addresses. Please keep it clean. Click the ‘Read More’ link for instructions and let me know if you hit any snags.

Website Migration Complete!

We’ve updated the site with a new content management system, from aging phpWebsite to Exponent CMS. The major difference here is enhanced ease-of-use, allowing non-technical people to easily manage site content. Other benefits include increased flexibility, better permission managment and easier design modifications. Hit the read link for a list of other improvements.

Site moved from dedicated ServerBeach server to new shared server hosted by GoDaddy

Consolidated Photos, Video, and Newsletters into one "Media" content page.

Added a user forum with two sections, the Job Opportunity bank for job/internship postings and the General Discussion section to facilitate discussions among the brotherhood

Removed the barely-used "Events Calendar" page and replaced it with a simpler "Upcoming Events" block in the sidebar.

Added an RSS feed link so users can stay up-to-date and read posts in their favorite reader without visiting the site.

Important Notice: Website Migration

Early next week, this website will be moved to a new server. During the migration, you may not be able to access sigeppaba.org or any content hosted here. The migration should be complete by end-of-day Tuesday and we’re taking steps to ensure that if the site does become unavailable, it’s for a short period of time only. Contact admin@sigeppaba.org with any questions.

Update: The migration is mostly complete. User profile and contact information has been moved to the new server, so you should be able to log in as usual. In the next few days, we’ll roll out some new features to the site and continue to iron out any bugs that may surface.

Giving Back: Search and Give

In our second installment of the Giving Back series, we highlight another super easy way to make a difference in your community. Microsoft’s Search and Give program donates a penny to the charity or school of your choice each time you search the web using their site, up to $60 per person per year. A team of 20 brothers could raise $1,200 for charity next year just by using this site for web searches.

Website Updates: Slideshow and Comments

We’ve added a slideshow box that randomly selects one of our recent photo galleries and displays images from it on the right side of the site. If you reload this page, you should get a different set of pictures. We’ve also fixed the comment system, so those of you who like to speak up are once again able to do so by clicking on the little speech bubble icon next to the title of the post.
