2012 Executive Retreat

This past weekend the current and outgoing executive boards met on the campus of Moravian College for the annual executive retreat. This retreat is designed to help our new officers begin a path of leadership in the upcoming semester that will only better the Pennsylvania Beta chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon.

The 4th Annual Balanced Man Scholarship Banquet will be on January 29th 2012 at the Hotel Bethlehem. Registration will be available on the website early next week. The brothers of SigEp at Moravian College hope you can join us for this event. Below are the awards that will be given out, along with our 2012 Balanced Man Scholar:

Red Door Award

Presented in recognition of the undergraduate brother who has, on various occasions, exemplified vast knowledge of the history, traditions, and principles of the Sigma Phi Epsilon National
and Local Fraternity.

Consummate Gentlemen Award

Presented in recognition of the undergraduate brother that displays the qualities of a true gentleman within the fraternity and the Moravian College community. We recognize this individual who exemplifies the true meaning of Virtue, Diligence, and Brotherly Love.

Power House Athlete

Presented in recognition of the undergraduate brother who displays prowess on the field of competition. This brother has consistently performed at a very high level and continues to refine his physical skills for the betterment of himself and his team.

Philip J. Patrick Service Above Self Award

Presented in recognition of the undergraduate brother who has given of his time and talents for the betterment of the Undergraduate and Alumni Chapters.

Fearless Leader Award

Presented in recognition of the undergraduate brother who displays exemplary leadership within the fraternity and the Moravian College community. This brother has taken it upon himself to lead on campus through a variety of endeavors.

Diligent Scholar Award

Presented in recognition of the undergraduate brother with the highest cumulative grade point average. This brother has demonstrated his commitment to academic excellence within the chapter and the Moravian College community.

Family Appreciation Award

Presented in appreciation of a family that has demonstrated continued generosity and whose support has greatly benefited the Alumni Board and the Undergraduate Chapter.

SigEp Gives Back

The brothers of SigEp partnered with the City of Bethlehem’s North by Northwest Neighborhood Initiative program this weekend. They volunteered their service to clean up Third Avenue, West Union Blvd, and a portion of 378 south in Bethlehem. The program is a division within the City of Bethlehem that exists to improve the image of Bethlehem. The North by Northwest program holds numerous events throughout the year. One event, Graffiti Clean-Up, is one that SigEp plans to help with in the future. The event involves going around Bethlehem and removing graffiti from buildings. This community service event is one of many events that SigEp holds throughout the year. SigEp also holds Sunday morning campus clean-ups at Moravian. Brothers clean-up any trash that accumulated over the weekend on the campus of Moravian College.

Our annual softball game between the undergraduate & alumni brothers will be played on Saturday evening at the Lone Lane Park in Allentown, PA. Bethlehem, Pa. June 29, 2011— Moravian College student Michael Facchiano ’12 (Allentown, Pa.) has recently participated in a one-of-a-kind leadership development program through his fraternity, Sigma Phi Epsilon. The program, called the Ruck Leadership Institute, is a five-day interactive immersion experience with fellow undergraduate members of Sigma Phi Epsilon and alumni facilitators.

Facchiano was selected as one of the top 120 undergraduate members in the country from a pool of over 15,000. The Ruck Leadership Institute focuses on the leadership principles espoused in one of the best-selling leadership books of all time, The Leadership Challenge, co-written by Barry Posner, a nationally renowned leadership expert and SigEp alumnus. The program is one of the ways SigEp lives up to its mission: “Building Balanced Men.”

Facchiano said he was not sure what to expect at this gathering of so many fellow SigEps from across the country. “We got into teams right away and had to figure out how to work together with a lot of unknowns,” he said. Facchiano, who studies financial economics, serves as his chapter’s president, and is a thrower on the track team at Moravian. “My courses at Moravian give me the technical knowledge I need in business, but this leadership training has shown me how much I have to work on myself to get results from others,” he added.

Brain Warren, executive director of the Fraternity, said, “I am confident that these students will go back to their campuses ready to take on leadership roles with new skills and determination, as I did when I completed the program in 2002. The opportunity to learn from the most talented and highly accomplished leaders in our Fraternity gives these young men a distinct advantage as they embark on their careers.”

The Ruck Leadership Institute is named in honor of Frank J. Ruck Jr., a former Grand President of SigEp and a visionary in developing leaders. He was an inspiration for many generations of SigEp members to reach their full potential as leaders in all aspects of their lives.

Sigma Phi Epsilon, established in 1901, is one of the nation’s largest fraternities, with over 15,000 undergraduates on 240 campuses across the United States. Its mission is “Building Balanced Men”, which is achieved through a four-year member development program that has contributed to a fraternity-wide GPA of over 3.0, a focus on the principles of Sound Mind and Sound Body, and service learning efforts that allow members to develop leadership skills while giving back to the community.

The undergraduate brothers of the Pennsylvania Beta Alpha chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon at Moravian College invite alumni, family and friends to join us for our annual softball picnic retreat starting on Friday, July 22nd, 2011 at 5:30pm. We will be starting off the retreat on Friday at Starters Riverport for dinner and drinks. On Saturday, we will have a barbecue at the SigEp house (1423 Iron Street, Bethlehem, PA) followed by a meeting to discuss chapter goals. We will conclude the weekend with our annual softball game between the alumni and undergraduates brothers.

3rd Annual Balanced Man Scholarship Golf Outing: April 17th

The third annual Sigma Phi Epsilon Balanced Man Scholarship Golf Outing will be taking place this year on Sunday, April 17th. It will be held again at the Bethlehem Municipal Golf Course on Illicks Mill Road in Bethlehem, PA. The tee off time is 1:00p.m and will be catered by Starters Restaurant. Cost will be $100 dollars per golfer, which includes green fees, cart fees, lunch, draft beer following golf play (for those who are 21) and specialty prizes for the top golfers. Non-golfers are welcome to attend the catered lunch and award presentations after golf play at a cost of $30 per person, the lunch will begin at approximately 5:00p.m. This year for the first time we will be having a pig roast! This spring, the undergraduate brothers of Pennsylvania Beta Alpha worked hard during Spring Rush events. The result was the recruitment of twelve new members, under the direction of Jim Tersigni ’13, the Vice President of Recruitment. As of now the chapter has a total of 39 members. The new members are pictured below.
